基于既有设施改造的钱江源国家公园古田山自然中心设计

Design of Gutianshan Nature Education Center in Qianjiangyuan National Park based on renovation of existing facility

  • Abstract: Nature education serves as a core function of national parks, with nature education centers as essential facilities for supporting this function. Renovation design for nature education centers by utilizing existing structures not only alleviates issues of insufficient site availability and infrastructure provision, but also conserves construction resources, shortens development timelines, and facilitates the organic integration of indoor and outdoor educational facilities and activities. This approach provides a valuable direction and practical pathway for advancing nature education initiatives within national parks. Taking the Gutianshan Nature Center in Qianjiangyuan National Park as a case study, this paper clarifies the functional positioning of the center by considering the needs of different user groups. Through an integrated planning of indoor and outdoor spaces, a comprehensive design concept is proposed that merges indoor functions such as exhibition, education, and service with outdoor activities including nature experience, field study, and exploration. The design incorporates innovative green construction principles throughout both the architectural renovation process and the subsequent development of the educational curriculum system, forming the core feature of the project. This initiative aims to establish a model for the design and renovation of nature education centers in national parks, explore effective pathways for repurposing existing facilities, and offer a reference for developing low-cost, efficient, and sustainable construction and operational models for other national parks and various types of protected natural areas in China.
