Abstract
The recovery of the Hainan gibbon population marks the first successful application of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in the protection of endangered mammals with a population size of less than 10 on a global scale. By integrating the theory and practice of NbS, this paper systematically review the conservation experience of the Hainan gibbon, and analyzes its conservation model within the NbS framework, enhancing public awareness of conservation efforts for this species. Moreover, to foster the organic integration of Hainan gibbon conservation with the community′s development, the paper suggests further increasing community involvement, thereby allowing the results of conservation efforts to more broadly benefit local community development. By offering suggestions on raising conservation awareness and improving economic and social benefits, the core principle of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature is deepened, promoting the widespread application of this conservation model. Finally, it is emphasized that the key to protecting endangered species lies in improving their habitats while maintaining a societal environment where humans and nature can coexist harmoniously. The Hainan gibbon conservation model in this study not only complements practical cases of NbS in the field of endangered species protection but also provides valuable references for advancing the coordinated development of endangered species protection and community economies.
